After early operatic appearances in Cluj Napoca and the National Opera Timisoara in 2009 the young Roumanian tenor Stefan Pop made a triumphant international debut as Alfredo at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma in a production by Franco Zeffirelli. This was followed by La Traviata at the Greek National Opera in Athens, the Vienna and Hamburg state operas (in some performances alongside Edita Gruberova), at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste, the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genua, Teatro Massimo in Palermo and the Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv. He also made his debut at Oper Frankfurt with this role in 2011/12. Stefan Pop has won many important singing competitions, including the International Music Competition in Seoul and Operalia Competition (1st Prize and Audience Prize) in 2010. Future engagements include Alfredo in a new production directed by Johannes Erath in Hamburg in 2013, Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore at the Opéra de Monte Carlo, the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, in Hamburg and at the Théâtre Royal de La Monnaie in Brussels and Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) in Paris. He will be returning to Oper Frankfurt for a new production in 2014.
