Jean-Francois Lapointe
French roles are central to this award winning baritone from Québec’s repertoire. Engagements in recent seasons have included Pelléas at many theatres (including the Peter Brook’s celebrated production at La Scala Milan), the title role in Ambroise Thomas’ Hamlet (in Copenhagen, amongst other places), Mercutio in Roméo et Juliette (at places including the Festival Chorégies d’Orange and in Tokyo), Lescaut in Manon (at the Opéra de Québec), Albert in Werther and Nevers in Les Huguenots (at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels) as well as Escamillo in Carmen (including a tour of Japan and in Barcelona). He is just at home singing other roles, including Count Almaviva, Don Giovanni, Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Danilo, Harlekin in Ariadne auf Naxos and Falstaff at leading houses around the world. Roles from now until the end of the season are Duparquet in Hahn’s Ciboulette at the Opéra Comique in Paris, Marquis de la Force (Les Dialogues des Carmélites) in Toronto and Marc Antoine in Massenet’s Cléopâtre in Marseille.
