Ante Jerkunica is appearing at Oper Frankfurt for the first time. This Croation bass, who represented his country at the 2007 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition, has been a member of the ensemble at the Deutsche Oper Berlin since 2007, where his many roles have included Fafner (Das Rheingold and Siegfried), Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), Banco (Verdi’s Macbeth), Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia) and the Grand Inquisitor (Don Carlo). He sang Fafner in Shanghai in 2010 on tour with Cologne Opera. He has appeared as a guest artist at the Salzburg Festival, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, in Brussels, Amsterdam and Lyon. He recently sang Sarastro at the Vlaamse Oper in Antwerp and Ghent. Future engagements, apart from roles in Berlin, include appearances in the Ring at the Gran Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona, where he is a regular guest, and his debut at the Opéra National de Paris, as Colline in La Bohème.
