Jan Philipp Gloger, director of both plays and operas, is making his debut at Oper Frankfurt with Idomeneo. His first operatic production was Le nozze di Figaro at Theater Augsburg in 2010. This was followed by Handel’s Alcina at the Semperoper Dresden in 2011 and Der fliegende Holländer at the 2012 Bayreuth Festival. Jan Philipp Gloger studied theatre at Gießen University before going to the Highschool for the Arts in Zurich to study direction. Whilst still a student he assisted the Rimini group and worked as a stage musician. Since 2007 he has directed plays at many theatres, including the German Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, the Bavarian Staatsschauspiel in Munich, Theater Augsburg and the Deutsche Theater in Berlin. He has held the position of Head Director of Drama at the Staatstheater in Mainz since 2011. Other recent productions have taken place at the Körber Studio for Young Directors in Hamburg, the Stückemarkt in Heidelberg, Ruhr Festival in Recklinghausen and the Mülheimer Theatertagen. He was awarded the Bavarian Theatertage Prize for Direction for his production of Goethe’s Clavigo. His production of Elfriede Jelinek’s Winterreise was nominated for the 2012 Berlin Theatertreffen.
