Jens-Daniel Herzog
Jens-Daniel Herzog has been Intendant of Oper Dortmund since the beginning of the 2011/12 season. He made his debut at Oper Frankfurt with a wonderful production of Lohengrin in 2008/09. Engagements in 2013/14 include the world premiere of Iain Bell and Peter Ackroyd's A Harlot's Progress at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna. Operas he has directed include Giulio Cesare at the Semperoper in Dresden, Aida at the Staatstheater in Nürnberg (2009), Flavius Bertaridus at the Hamburg State Opera (2011), Die Zauberflöte at the Salzburg Festival, The Coronation of Poppea at Theater Dortmund (2012) and, most recently, Don Carlo at the Nationaltheater in Mannheim. After studying philosophy Jens-Daniel Herzog worked at the Kammerspiele in Munich where he directed world premieres of many plays. He was director of Drama at the National Theatre in Mannheim from 2000 - 2006. Guest engagements have included productions of plays at the Schauspielhaus in Zurich, the Thalia Theater in Hamburg, the Burgtheater in Vienna, Schauspiel Frankfurt, Staatsschauspiel Dresden and the National Theatre in Seoul. Jens-Daniel Herzog's production of David Mamet's Oleanna was invited to the Berlin Teatertreffen and his production of Marlene Streeruwitz' New York, New York to the Mülheim Teatertagen (it is a great honour to be invited to take productions to the Teatertreffen or Teatertagen – these are annual events to which only the very best productions of the year are invited).
