Bertrand de Billy
Bertrand de Billy, First Guest Conductor of the Frankfurter Opern- und Museumsorchester (since the beginning of the season) and the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, is one of the most sought after conductors in the world. Engagements in 2013 included Ariadne auf Naxos and Simon Boccanegra at the Bayerische Staatsoper Festival and Otello at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. He is a regular guest at the Vienna State Opera, the Theater an der Wien, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London and the Metropolitan Opera New York. He has also appeared regularly at the Salzburg Festival since 2002 and leading orchestras with whom he has worked have included the Cleveland Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphonieorchester, the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Dresden Philharmonic, Orchestre de Paris, Vienna Symphony, Hamburg Philharmonic, and the RSB and Konzerthausorchester in Berlin. After working as a Kapellmeister in Dessau and at the Volksoper in Vienna Bertrand de Billy took up the post of Chief Conductor of the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona (1999–2004) and the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra (2002–2010). Many recordings and DVDs document his broad and varied artistic career and he has received several honours in France and Austria. Future projects include Lohengrin and Faust at the Vienna State Opera, Arabella at the New National Theatre in Tokyo and Maria Stuarda at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London.
