Michael König is a regular guest at Oper Frankfurt, where he sang the roles of the Tenor and Bacchus in this production of Ariadne auf Naxos (available on CD OehmsClassics) when it opened last season. Roles for the company have included Lohengrin, Narraboth (Salome), Kavalier (Cardillac), Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Boris (Katja Kabanová), the Kaiser (Die Frau ohne Schatten) and Florestan (Fidelio). Roles in 2015 include Erik (Der fliegende Holländer/The Flying Dutchman) at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, Florestan in Madrid and Stuttgart and Max in a new production of Freischütz at the Semperoper in Dresden conducted by Christian Thielemann. He studied singing with Rudolf Piernay. Other places where he has enjoyed great success on stage have included the Hamburg and Berlin state operas, the Opéra National de Paris, the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam, the Canadian Opera Company, Zurich Opera, the Teatro Real in Madrid, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and the Bayreuth Festival, working with conductors including Vladimir Jurowski, Daniele Gatti, Seiji Ozawa, Hartmut Haenchen, Kent Nagano and Sebastian Weigle.
