David McVicar
David McVicar’s Don Carlo has been one of the most popular productions at Oper Frankfurt since it first opened in 2007/08. He was born in Scotland and is one of the leading directors of his generation. His productions are performed all over the world and many have been seen on television or recorded on DVD. His most recent productions include Maria Stuarda at the Metropolitan Opera New York and Charpentier’s Médée at English National Opera in London. David McVicar was awarded the "Grand Prix de la Musique du Syndicat de la Critique" for his Ring (completed in 2010/11) at the Opéra national du Rhin in Strassbourg. In 2008 he received a "Laurence Olivier Award" for his productions of The Turn of the Screw (originally for ENO) and Agrippina (which first opened at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels before going to the Théâtre des Champs Élysées in Paris, ENO and Oper Frankfurt). David McVicar was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2012. Future engagements include a new production of Tristan und Isolde at the Vienna State Opera.
