Heiner Goebbels
Heiner Goebbels has composed works for theatre, film, ballet and, since the 1980s, audio (mostly texts written by Heiner Müller). He has also directed some operas: Schwarz auf Weiß, Max Black, Hashirigaki, Eraritjaritjaka, Stifters Dinge and I went to the house but did not enter. His works have been performed at important theatre and music festivals in more than thirty countries. He was appointed Intendant and Artistic Director of the Ruhrtriennale for 2012-14, his When the mountain changed its clothing was performed there in 2012 and he will be directing Harry Partch's Delusion of the Fury there in the summer of 2013. Heiner Goebbels is a member of several arts academies in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Mainz and Frankfurt and, since 2006, President of the Theatre Academy Hessen. He has taught at the Institute of Applied Theatre Sciences in Gießen since 1999 and the many awards bestowed upon him for his artistic achievements have included the 2013 »Carl Orff Prize«, the 2012 »International Ibsen Award«, one of the most important theatre prizes in the world, and the 2011 Hessen prize »Exzellenz in der Lehre«. He was nominated for Grammy awards in 2001 and 2004 for his Surrogate Cities and Eislermaterial and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Birmingham City University in 2012. He has lived in Frankfurt am Main since 1972.
