Elisabeth Hornung's appearances at Oper Frankfurt have included La Abuela in a new production of La vida breve in 2008/09, which she sang again in the 2010/11 revival and, most recently, the role of Wowkle in this new production of La fanciulla del West when it opened last season. This Polish singer has been a member of the Staatstheater in Darmstadt since 1984, where she has performed a wide and varied repertoire. Roles for other companies have included Klytämnestra dn Anina at the Nationaltheater in Mannheim, Ulrica in Un ballo in maschera in Basel and Bonn, Buryja in Jenufa, Alleswissende Muschel in Die ägyptische Helena and Gaea in Strauss’ Daphne, directed by Peter Konwitschny, amongst others, at the Aalto Theater Essen, and other roles at the Semperoper in Dresden, Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Edinburgh and Schwetzingen festivals. She joined her first opera company, the Komische Oper in Berlin, whilst still a student. In September 2014 she will sing the Old Buryja in a Peter Konwitschny production of Jenufa at Theater Augsburg.
