Stamatia Karampini is making her debut at Oper Frankfurt. She conducted Die Fledermaus at the Komische Oper in Berlin in 2005. Before she was 25 she had conducted operas including Le nozze di Figaro, Tosca, Cavalleria rusticana, La Traviata, Carmen, Eugen Onegin and Tristan und Isolde in Germany, Greece and Sweden. Orchestras with whom she has worked include the Bamberg and Munich symphony orchestras, the Orchestre National de France, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Radio Symphonie Orchestra in Prague, the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano and London Philharmonic Orchestra. Her achievements have won her many awards including 1st Prize at the »Trianti National Conducting Competition« in Athens and a Richard Wagner Scholarship. In 2003, during celebrations for St. Petersburg's 300th birthday, she was awarded an honorary diploma from the Prokofiev Organisation for her outstanding performance of the composer's works. Stamatia Karampini graduated from the High School for Music in Munich and the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm. At the tender age of 13 she was involved in the founding of the Greek »Jeunesse« orchestra and chorus in 1992, and was their artistic director for four years.
