Barrie Kosky
Australian born Barrie Kosky has been Intendant of the Komische Oper in Berlin since the 2012/13 season. His productions of Ligeti's Le Grand Macabre, Le nozze di Figaro, Gluck's Iphigenie auf Tauris, Cole Porter's Kiss me, Kate, Rigoletto and Rusalka there were followed by Die Zauberflöte and Paul Abraham's operetta Ball im Savoy. He recently directed Gluck's Armide at the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam. His new Ring at the Staatsoper in Hannover, where his production of Aus einem Totenhaus/From the House of the Dead, was completed in 2011. He was Intendant of the Schauspielhaus in Vienna from 2001-2006, where his much admired productions included Euripides’ Medea (nominated for the Nestroy Prize). Other recent successes have included his jazz version of L’incoronazione di Poppea, which went on to the Berlin Ensemble, Edinburgh International Festival and the Sydney Opera House after its opening run at the Theater an der Wien, and his production of Monteverdi's Orfeo at the Festwochen for Early Music in Innsbruck (conducted by René Jacobs) and the Staatsoper in Berlin.
