Zeljko Lucic
Željko Lučić, who is singing the role of Falstaff for the first time in his career, is one of the most sought after Verdi baritones in the world and a regular guest at leading opera houses. Engagements during the 2013/14 season have already included Puccini's Scarpia (Tosca) and Verdi's Nabucco at the Vienna State Opera, Jago (Otello) in Zurich and Amonasro (Aida) and Giorgio Germont (La Traviata) at La Scala Milan. Later this season roles include Giordano's Carlo Gérard (Andrea Chénier) at the Metropolitan Opera New York and the title role in Verdi's Simon Boccanegra at the Semperoper in Dresden. Born in Serbia, he began his great international career at Oper Frankfurt, where he was a member of the ensemble from 1998-2008 – he returns from time to time as a welcome guest. Many of the roles which Željko Lučić now sings all over the world were performed for the first time in Frankfurt. He works regularly with many leading conductors, among them Bertrand de Billy, Gustavo Dudamel, Daniel Barenboim, Riccardo Muti and Daniele Gatti. He studied in Novi Sad and Belgrade and won the 1997 »Francisco Viñas« international singing competition in Barcelona.
