Burkhard Fritz is sought after the world over for youthful, heldentenor roles. He sang Paul in Die tote Stadt at Oper Frankfurt, returning in 2011/12 for Arindal in concert performances of Wagner's Die Feen/The Faries (available on CD). He has sung the role of Henri at the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam and at the Vienna State Opera. Recent engagements have included Tristan (Tristan und Isolde) in Toronto, Walther von Stolzing (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) and Lohengrin at the Hamburg State Opera, Erik (The Flying Dutchman) at Leipzig Opera and Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos, which he sang at the Richard Strauss Festival in Garmisch-Partenkirchen before singing it at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. Burkhard Fritz will sing Richard Strauss’ Kaiser in Die Frau ohne Schatten/The Woman without a Shadow at Leipzig Opera in 2014. He was a member of the ensemble at the Berlin Staatsoper from 2004-2010. Conductors with whom he has worked in concert and in opera have included Daniel Barenboim, Christian Thielemann, Christoph Eschenbach and Kent Nagano. Other cities where he has appeared have included Brussels, Paris and Tokyo. He was studying medicine at Hamburg University at the same time as he was being taught to sing by Ute Buge.
