Johannes Debus
Johannes Debus has been Music Director of the Canadian Opera Company since 2009. Recent productions there have included Die Fledermaus, Salome, The Dialogue of the Carmelites and Tristan und Isolde and during the 2013/14 season he will conduct Peter Grimes, Così fan tutte and Don Quichotte. He made his debut in Frankfurt in 1999, conducting Henze's Boulevard Solitude. Johannes Debus was a Kapellmeister der Oper Frankfurt from 2001-2008, during which time the operas he conducted included the first ever performances in Germany of Adès’ The Tempest, a new double bill: Falla's Das kurze Leben/La vida breve and Ravel's Die spanische Stunde/L'Heure espagnole, Salvatore Sciarrino's Macbeth and Luciano Berio's Un re in ascolto. He is now back in Frankfurt to conduct the last revival of this production of Janáček's Die Ausflüge des Herrn Brouček/The Adventures of Mr Broucek. Guest engagements in recent seasons have included appearances at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf, the Staatsoper in Berlin, English National Opera, the Opéra National in Lyon, the Biennale in Venice, Suntory Summer Festival Tokyo and Festival di Spoleto. He has also worked with the Ensemble Modern and Ensemble Intercontemporain.
