Jim Lucassen
Dutch director Jim Lucassen is making his debut at Oper Frankfurt. In March 2013 he brought Werther to the stage at the Landestheater in Salzburg, where he directed Benedetto Marcello's baroque opera Arianna in 2010. In 2014 he directs Ariodante in Essen. Other productions in recent seasons have included Così fan tutte at the Opéra National Lorraine, where his Rusalka production was performed in 2010 and Un ballo in maschera at the Theater St. Gallen. Jim Lucassen designs the scenery for most of his productions. He made his debut in Germany with Rigoletto at Theater Heidelberg. Prior to this most of his work had taken place in the Netherlands, including Saint-Saëns’ La Princesse Jaune, the world premiere of Maarten Jense's O=O+W=W, Mozart's Zauberflöte, Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice, Jonathan Dove's Siren Song, Gounod's La Colombe, Confessions of a Soprano, with music by Cole Porter and Benjamin Britten, Le Bal Masqué, with music by Poulenc and Ambroise Thomas' Mignon. Before his own career as a director took off Jim Lucassen gained experience at De Nederlandse Opera, the Opéra National de Paris and De Nationale Reisopera, assisting directors including Robert Carsen, Peter Sellars, Harry Kupfer and Ursel & Karl-Ernst Hermann.
