Brigitte Fassbaender
Ariadne auf Naxos was Brigitte Fassbaender's first production at Oper Frankfurt. Future plans include Eugen Onegin in Kiel and La Bohème in Coburg. Recent engagements have included Don Pasquale at the Cuvilliés Theater in Munich, Katja Kabanová at Theater Regensburg, Albert Herring at the Volksoper in Vienna and Rigoletto in Regensburg. She was Intendant of the Tiroler Landestheater in Innsbruck until 2012, where her many successful productions included Werther, Carmen, Tosca, Lucio Silla, Les Troyens, The Bartered Bride,A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Peter Grimes, The Turn of the Screw, Arabella, Die Frau ohne Schatten, Salome and Elektra. She has been Artistic Director of the Richard Strauss Festival in Garmisch-Partenkirchen since 2009. Brigitte Fassbaender ended her long and distinguished singing career in 1995. She was one of the world's leading singers, appearing at opera houses including the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Staatsoper in Vienna, Teatro alla Scala Milan, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, Metropolitan Opera in New York and leading festivals, including those in Bayreuth, Salzburg and Glyndebourne. Around 300 recordings, many of them of Lieder, document the extraordinary range of her artistic career. The many awards made to Brigitte Fassbaender include being named Kammersänger of the Munich and Vienna state operas, the Bundesverdienstkreuz 1st Class with Star, the »Pour le Mérite« and an honorary doctorate from Manchester University. She is one of the world's most sought after singing teachers.
