FRANZ GRUNDHEBER

Baritone

Franz Grundheber
Franz Grundheber, Kammersänger and Honorary Member of the Vienna and Hamburg state operas, returns to Frankfurt for the first time since his wonderful performances of the title role in Verdi's Simon Boccanegra in 2010/11. During the course of his long and very successful international career this baritone has sung roles at many of the world's leading opera companies, including the title role in Rigoletto (the very first German singer to do so) at the Metropolitan Opera New York and Amonasro in Aida at the Arena di Verona. Franz Grundheber is a regular guest at the Salzburg Festivals and recently sang Barak in Die Frau ohne Schatten at Theater Essen. He will be singing the Music Teacher again this season - at the Hamburg State Opera, where he can also be heard as Peter (the father) in Hänsel und Gretel. His discography includes nearly all of Strauss' repertoire and two recordings of Alban Berg's Wozzeck (the one conducted by Claudio Abbado was awarded the »Georges Till« prize). The many leading conductors with whom he has worked have included Herbert von Karajan, Claudio Abbado, Seiji Ozawa, Christian Thielemann and Giuseppe Sinopoli.
