Ivano Zanenghi


Ivano Zanenghi, one of the leading lute-players in the world, works regularly with Sara Mingardo. Born in Venice in 1952, he is a co-founder of, and soloist with the renowned Venice Baroque Orchestra and artistic director of L’Opera Stravagante, an ensemble he founded, which specialises in performing »re-discovered« music, mainly from the 17th and 18th centuries. Ivano Zanenghi has appeared at leading concert halls throughout the world, including the Konzerthaus in Berlin, the Tonhalle Zürich, Musikverein in Vienna, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, La Scala Milan, the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, the Royal Albert Hall and Barbican in London, Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall in New York and the Kyoi Hall in Tokyo. He has worked with many leading baroque ensembles with conductors including Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Sir Simon Rattle, René Clemencic, Alan Curtis, Andrea Marcon and John Fischer, and many musicians, among them Viktoria Mullova, Mario Brunello, Giuliano Carmignola, Sergio Azzolini, Nicola Favaro, Giovanni Guglielmo, Sir James Galway, Stefano Montanari, Simone Kermes, Cecilia Bartoli, Angelika Kirchschlager, Anna Netrebko, Magdalena Kožená and Andreas Scholl. His extensive discography includes recordings with Deutsche Grammophon, Arts, ORF and Sony Classical. Recent recordings include Cetra Ritrovata - works by Antonio Vivaldi with L’Opera Stravagante (Enchiriadis). In tandem with his busy artistic career Ivano Zanenghi, who studied in Venice with, amongst others Hopkinson Smith, is professor for baroque lute and basso continuo at the Scuola di Musica Antica in Venice.
