Christian Curnyn

Christian Curnyn, is one of the world's most sought after conductors for baroque opera, made his debut at Oper Frankfurt in 2011/12 with La Calisto. Following on from performances of Charpentier's Medée at English National Opera, Handel's Ariodante at the Landestheater in Salzburg and Rameau's Platée at the Staatsoper in Stuttgart he is now back at Oper Frankfurt for this new production of Gluck's Ezio. Engagements during the 2013/14 season include Handel's Rodelinda at English National Opera and Rameau's Castor und Pollux at the Komische Oper in Berlin. Other engagements in recent seasons have included productions at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera, New York City Opera, Australia Opera and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London. He has also appeared at the BBC Proms and the Handel Festivals in Halle and Karlsruhe. He founded the Early Opera Company in 1994, with whom he has gone on many tours, performing, predominantely, operas by Handel. Award winning recordings with Chandos include Handel's Flavio, Partenope und Semele, Eccles’ The Judgement of Paris, Britten's The Beggar’s Opera and Handel's Alceste, which won BBC Music Magazine's 2013 Best Opera Award, Il Trionfo del Tempo - part of the Wigmore Live series, and, on the Decca label, Nicola Benedetti – Italia - works by Vivaldi, Tartini and Veracini. A recording of Handel's Xerxes was released this September.
