Leo Hussain
Leo Hussain made his debut at Oper Frankfurt in 2010/11, conducting a revival of a L'heure espagnole & La vida breve double bill. He was born in Englland in 1978 and studied at Cambridge University and the Royal Academy of Music in London. This was followed by periods assisting Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, Riccardo Muti and Valery Gergiev, and is regarded as one of the most interesting conductors of his generation. In 2009 he enjoyed a triumph at theThéâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels with Le Grand Macabre and took up the post of Chief Conductor of the Landestheater in Salzburg, where recent operas included Tristan und Isolde, La clemenza di Tito and Kaija Saariaho's Emilie. Last September he moved to the Opéra de Rouen Haute-Normandie, where he is Chief Principal Conductor. Other engagements in recent seasons have included Gluck's Iphigénie en Aulide at the Theater an der Wien, where he returns this May for Milhaud's La mère coupable, Gounod's Faust at the Staatsoper in Berlin (2014/15), and productions at English National Opera, the Opéra Comique in Paris, Opera North, the Royal Opera in Copenhagen, the Glyndebourne Festival and the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg. Orchestras with whom he has appeared in concert have included the Vienna and Hamburg symphony orchestras, the Deutsche Symphonie Orchester Berlin, the BBC Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestra, the Salzburg Mozarteum and the NHK Symphony Orchestra Japan.
