Dimitri Platanias
Greek born Dimitri Platanias is making his debut at Oper Frankfurt. Other engagements during the 2013/14 season include Guglielmo (in Puccini's Le Villi) at the Opéra National in Paris and the title role in Rigoletto at La Monnaie in Brussels. He recently made his debut at Stuttgart Opera, singing the title role in Nabucco. Other places where this baritone has appeared include Greek National Opera and the Megaron in Athens, the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden London and the Bregenz Festival. His repertoire also includes the roles of Alfio (Cavalleria rusticana), Tonio (I Pagliacci), Paolo (Simon Boccanegra), Marcello (La Bohème), Barnaba (La Gioconda), the High Priest (Alceste) and Leporello (Don Giovanni). Dimitri Platanias studied guitar and singing at the conservatoire in his home town of Kalamata before studying English and literature at the National University in Athens and furthering his singing studies with Masako Tanaka Protti in Italy, with the help of an Alexandra Triandi Scholarship.
