Giorgio Surian
Giorgio Surian, born in Fiume, Italy, is a regular guest at leading opera houses around the world, including the Royal Opera House in London, Zurich Opera, the Vienna State Opera, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Metropolitan Opera New York, Arena di Verona and Salzburg Festival. Conductors with whom he has worked have included Zubin Mehta, Daniele Gatti and Claudio Abbado. In the 2013/14 season he sang Sir John Falstaff, Dulcamara (L’elisir d’amore) and Scarpia (Tosca) at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb. He sang the last of these roles this season in Frankfurt. Many of his performances have been recorded on CD/DVD - at La Scala Milan (Guglielmo Tell, Rigoletto and La forza del destino, and others), in Florence (Mozart's Figaro) and the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago (Scarpia). As well as many lead parts in Italian works (mainly by Verdi, Puccini and Rossini) his repertoire also includes roles by Beethoven, Wagner, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Mussorgsky, Berlioz and Meyerbeer. Giorgio Surian made his debut at Oper Frankfurt in 2010, singing the Four Villains in The Tales of Hoffmann.
