Maurizio Barbacini


Maurizio Barbacini is a regular guest at leading international opera houses, including Theater Basel, the Komische and Deutsche Oper in Berlin, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Bayerische Staatsoper München, Vienna State Opera, Scottish Opera, San Francisco Opera, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the New National Theatre in Tokyo. He recently conducted Puccini's Tosca at the Vlaamse Opera Antwerp / Ghent. He is now back for this revival of Massenet's Werther at Oper Frankfurt, where he has conducted The Rape of Lucretia, Manon Lescaut, L’elisir d’amore, Il viaggio a Reims and, in 2009/10, Lucia di Lammermoor. This Italian artist held the posts of Principal Conductor of Finnish National Opera, the Royal Opera in Stockholm and the Opera Company of Philadelphia. His extensive discography includes recordings with the Munich Radio Orchestra. Maurizio Barbacini enjoyed a successful career as a singer before he took up conducting. Roles included Gaston in Franco Zeffirelli's film of Traviata. He studied in Verona, Milan and Siena.
