Brian Mulligan


Baritone

American baritone Brian Mulligan sings the very demanding role of Prospero for the first while making his debut at Oper Frankfurt. He first appeared at the Metropolitan Opera in New York during his studies at the Juilliard School. Until now he has appeared mainly at leading opera houses in America, including the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Los Angeles Opera, New York City Opera and Houston Grand Opera, but has also sung at English National Opera and the Canadian Opera Company. His most recent engagement was a Massenet double bill at the Wexford Festival: singing Garrido in La Navarraise) and André Thorel in Thérèse). Engagements in 2014 include Prince Jeletsky in Pique Dame at Zurich Opera and Sharpless in Madame Butterfly at San Francisco Opera. His repertoire also includes the roles of Renato (Un ballo in maschera), Marcello (La Bohème), Jake Wallace (La fanciulla del West), Enrico (Lucia di Lammermoor), Melot (Tristan und Isolde), Amfortas (Parsifal), Balstrode (Peter Grimes), Richard Nixon (Adams' Nixon in China) and the title roles in Hamlet and Eugen Onegin. Brian Mulligan has also appeared in concert with the Cleveland and Houston orchestras, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Los Angeles Philharmonic, with whom he took part in a performance of Mahler 8 conducted by Gustavo Dudamel (available on DVD - Deutsche Grammophon).
