Brian Mulligan

Brian Mulligan made his debut at Oper Frankfurt in 2013/14 singing Prospero in Adès' The Tempest. He returned this season to sing Tadeusz in a new production of Weinberg's Die Passagierin/The (female) Passenger) – the first ever performances of the work in Frankfurt – and has stepped in at extremely short notice to sing Amfortas (role debut) in our current revival of Parsifal. This American baritone sings at leading opera houses throughout the US. His can next be heard in Berlioz' Les Troyens at San Francisco Opera (War Memorial Opera House), where he caused a sensation as Richard Nixon (Nixon in China) and recently sang Renato in Un ballo in maschera. Other successes in recent seasons have included Enrico in David Alden's production of Lucia di Lammermoor (Canadian Opera Company, English National Opera and Washington National Opera), Hamlet at Minnesota Opera and Valentin (Faust) at the Met in New York and at San Francisco Opera. Other engagements have included appearances at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Los Angeles Opera, New York City Opera, Houston Grand Opera, the Aspen Music Festival, Ravinia Festival, Spoleto Festival and Saito Kinen Festival. Brian Mulligan made his debut at Zurich Opera in 2014, singing Jelezki in Pique Dame. He graduated from the Juilliard School. Orchestras with whom he has appeared in concert have included the Cleveland and Houston orchestras, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Los Angeles Philharmonic, with whom he recorded Mahler 8 with Gustavo Dudamel (DVD Deutsche Grammophon).
