Tenor Hans Schöpflin's roles in Frankfurt in recent seasons were Edmund in Reimann's Lear, Sir Philip in a new production of Owen Wingrave and Quint in The Turn of the Screw. The winner of many awards this artist made a name for himself singing 20th and 21st century music at theatres including the Barcelona Opera, the Opéra National in Paris, the Gärtnerplatz Theatre in Munich, in Karlsruhe, Basel (world premiere of Der Sandmann/The Sandman, the Komische Oper Berlin, in Mannheim and Buenos Aires. Recent engagements have included the title role in Peter Grimes in Hildesheim. The production of Death in Venice at the Gran Theatre del Liceu in Barcelona, in which he sang the role of Aschenbach, was voted best new production of the year in 2008. The same role earned him the 2007 Theater Oscar and he was named Best Singer by a survey among critics in Nordrhein Westfalen. He sang in Weill's Berlin Requiem for Netherlands Radio in 2012.
