Stefan Blunier, General Music Director of the City of Bonn, Chief Conductor of the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn and Bonn Opera, is making his debut at Oper Frankfurt with this revival of Daphne. He will also conduct the revival of Tristan und Isolde here this season, replacing Constantinos Carydis, who is not well. Recent productions have included Tosca and Aida at Bonn Opera, Rigoletto at Zurich Opera and The Tales of Hoffmann
(Director: Calixto Bieito) at the Norwegian National Opera in Oslo. His next project in Bonn is Massenet's Thaïs. Stefan Blunier has enjoyed a close relationship with the Komische Oper in Berlin since 2008/09, where he conducted Weill's Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny in 2012/13. After being under contract in Mainz, Augsburg and Mannheim he took up the post of General Music Director of the Staatstheater in Darmstadt in 2008. Stefan Blunier has appeared in concert with more than 90 orchestras in Europe and Asia and conducted opera in London, Munich, Hamburg, Leipzig, Stuttgart, Berlin, Montpellier, Oslo and Bern. He has held the position of First Guest Conductor of the Orchestre National de Belgique in Brüssel since 2010/11. His broad and highly regarded discography includes recordings of d’Albert's Der Golem and Schreker's Irrelohe, which won ECHO Classic prizes in 2011 and 2012. This Swiss artist studied piano, horn, composition and conducting in his home town of Bern and at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen.
