The Swedish soprano Maria Bengtsson, who made her debut at Oper Frankfurt in 2008/09 as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni is back to repeat her unforgettable portrayal of the title role in this production of Daphne, which first opened in 2009/10. She is regarded as having one of the most beautiful lyric soprano voices of our time and enjoys success as an extraordinary performer at opera houses all over the world. She recently sang the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro at the Royal Opera House in London and the Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier at the Vlaamse Opera Antwerpen / Ghent. Other engagements in 2014 include Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), a role she has sung at the Salzburg Festival, amongst other place, at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and make her debut at the Vienna State Opera. In recent seasons Maria Bengtsson has appeared at theatres including the Komische Oper Berlin, the Berlin and Bavarian state operas, the Opéra National de Bordeaux, in Cologne, Graz, Lyon, Stockholm and Venice and in concert with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig. Her repertoire includes Mozart's Pamina, Konstanze, Donna Anna and Ilia, Monteverdi's Poppea (title role), Antonia (The Tales of Hoffmann), Infanta (Zemlinsky's The Dwarf), Micaëla (Carmen), Alice Ford (Falstaff), Iphigenie (Handel's Orest), Agathe (Der Freischütz), Marie (The Bartered Bride) and Cunegonde (Bernstein's Candide). She is also much sought after for concert work.
