Edita GruberovaEdita Gruberová is rightly regarded as the Prima donna assoluta, - Diva of Bel Canto. Born in Czechoslovakia, her international career began when she sang Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos at the Vienna State Opera under Karl Böhm. She achieved world fame in an extremely short time and became one of the most sought after interpreters of Zerbinetta, Konstanze (Die Enführung aus dem Serail), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Gilda (Rigoletto), Violetta (La Traviata) and Lucia, roles she has sung at leading opera houses all over the world, including La Scala Milan, Covent Garden the Met in New York, the Grand Opéra Paris and the opera houses in Berlin, Munich, Geneva, Zurich, Florence and Barcelona. Rarely performed bel canto operas have been scheduled especially for her. Edita Gruberová, who is also much in demand for concert work and recitals, has received many prizes and honours, which include being an Honorary Member of the Vienna State Opera, the Franco Abbiati Critic Prize in Italy, a Laurence Olivier Award and the Bellini d'oro for outstanding artistic achievements.
