Happy New Ears

Workshop Concerts with the Ensemble Modern

John Cage once wished his audiences »Happy New Ears«, encouraging people to welcome the challenge, and unique experience, of hearing something new. This series of events by the Ensemble Modern at Oper Frankfurt began in 1993. Every season four composers present their works, talk about how they came into being, composition technique and how they are to be performed in these special workshop concerts.

In the 2014/15 season the Ensemble Modern continues it's successful theme of »Divided – united. Music from both sides of the Berlin wall«, in which leading figures in the world of contemporary investigate the differences and similarities in the development and directions music took in the East and West from the time the wall was built and reunification in 1989. One of the evening focusses on the Swiss composer Hanspeter Kyburz, with whom the Ensemble Modern enjoy fruitful collaboration. The last evening of the season focusses on the relationship between music and film – in the presence of interesting and leading artists from both metiers.
