Alejandro Marco-Buhrmester
Alejandro Marco-Buhrmester, who was born in Switzerland, is regarded as one of the most distinguished baritones of his generation. After making his debut at the Bayreuth Festival in 2001, in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, he was invited back to sing Amfortas in Parsifal (2004 & 2006) and, since 2013, Gunther in Götterdämmerung.
Other recent engagements have included the title role in Rigoletto (2014/15) and, the season before, the Four Villains in in Hoffmanns Erzählungen/The Tales of Hoffmannm at the Komische Oper Berlin, where he was under contract from 1995 - 1999. Roles at Oper Frankfurt in the past were Amfortas and Jupiter in concert performances of Strauss' Die Liebe der Danae. Engagements in recent seasons have included Klingsor (Parsifal) in Lyon, Kurwenal (Tristan und Isolde) at the Teatro Real in Madrid and Opéra Bastille in Paris and Gunther, Montfort (The Sicilian Vespers), Don Giovanni and Amfortas at the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam. Other theatres where Alejandro Marco-Buhrmester has performed have included the Deutsche Oper and Staatsoper in Berlin, the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the New National Theatre in Tokyo and the Lucerne, Bergen and Ruhrtriennale festivals. Roles during the 2015/16 season include El emperador Überall in Der Kaiser von Atlantis/The Kaiser from Atlantis at the Teatro Real in Madrid.
