Alejandro Marco-Buhrmester
Alejandro Marco-Buhrmester is one of the leading baritones of his generation. Since making his debut in Bayreuth in 2001 in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg he has returned to the festival for Amfortas (Parsifal) in 2006 and sings Gunther in the new Götterdämmerung, which opened in 2013. Born in Switzerland, he was under contract to the Komische Oper in Berlin from 1995-1999, where he recently returned for the Four Villains in The Tales of Hoffmann. He sang Amfortas at Oper Frankfurt in 2006, returning last season for Jupiter in concert performances of Strauss' Die Liebe der Danae/The Love of Danae. Other recent engagements have included Klingsor (Parsifal) in Lyon, Kurwenal (Tristan und Isolde) at the Teatro Real in Madrid and Opéra Bastille in Paris, Montfort (The Sicilian Vespers), Don Giovanni and Amfortas at the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam. Alejandro Marco-Buhrmester has also appeared at the Deutsche Oper and Staatsoper in Berlin, the New National Theatre in Tokyo and the Luzern, Bergen and Ruhrtriennale festivals. Other roles in the 2014/15 season include Gunther at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and the title role in Rigoletto at the Komische Oper in Berlin.
