Paul Daniel
Paul Daniel is back in Frankfurt, where he enjoyed great success with new productions of Zemlinsky's Eine florentinische Tragödie / Der Zwerg/A Florentine Tragedy / The Dwarf double bill (2006/07) and Billy Budd (2007/08, and a revival in 2009/10). He recently conducted Berlioz' The Trojans at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Future projects include an evening to celebrate the life of George Harewood at English National Opera and Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel at the Teatro Real in Madrid. He became General Music Director of the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine (ONBA) at the beginning of the 2013/14 season. Previous posts held by this British artist were Chief Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra in Perth (2009–2014) and General Music Director of Opera North in Leeds (1990–97) and English National Opera in London (1997–2005). Other leading opera houses where he has worked have included the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and the Metropolitan Opera New York. Orchestras with whom he has worked have included the London Philharmonic, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Gewandhausorchester in Leipzig, Tonhalle in Zürich and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. He is passionate about British 20th century music. Paul Daniel's series of English music recording (Naxos) received a 1999 Gramophone Award. He received an Olivier Award in 1998 and was made a »Commander of the Order of the British Empire« in 2000.
