Elisabeth Stöppler, who produced Neunzehnhundert/Nineteenhundred (an evening of works by Zemlinsky, Schönberg, Mahler and Joneleit) for Oper Frankfurt in the Bockenheimer Depot in 2011, recently directed Massenet's Don Quichotte in the Revier Gelsenkirchen, where she has also created productions of Dvořák's Rusalka and a Benjamin Britten cycle: Trilogie der Außenseiter/Trilogy of an Outsider - Peter Grimes, Gloriana and the War Requiem. She was awarded the »Götz-Friedrich-Preis« and »Förderpreis NRW« for Peter Grimes in 2009, and the »Theaterpreis der Sparkasse Ruhrgebiet« for the trilogy. Other theatres where she has directed have included the Staatsoper in Berlin, the Semperoper in Dresden, the Hamburg State Opera, Staatsoper Hannover, Staatstheater Nürnberg, the Oldenburg Staatstheater and Deutsche Nationaltheater in Weimar. Elisabeth Stöppler studied piano at the Musikhochschule in Hannover, acting in Rome and operatic direction in Hamburg. She received a scholarship from the Akademie Musiktheater Heute from 2001-2003 and her diploma production won a prize from the Deutsche Bank Foundation. She takes up the post of House Director at the Staatstheater in Mainz from the beginning of the 2014/15 season.
