Aleš Briscein, a member of the ensemble at the State Opera in Prague, is back in Frankfurt, where he sang Janek in a new production of Die Sache Makropulos/The Makropoulos Case and three role's in last season's revival of Die Ausflüge des Herrn Brouček/The Adventures of Mr Brouček. He is singing the role of the Königssohn/The King's Son for the first time. Roles in Prague during the 2015/16 season include Dvořák's Jiří (Jakobín), Jeník (Die verkaufte Braut/The Bartered Bride), Alfredo Germont (La Traviata), the Prince (Rusalka), Ferrando (Così fan tutte), Pollione (Norma), Števa Buryja (Jenůfa) and Gounod's Roméo. He also sings Lensky in Eugen Onegin at the Komische Oper in Berlin in 2016. Other places where this Czech tenor has enjoyed great success have included the opera houses in Mexico City, Tokyo, Antwerp, Valencía, Zagreb, Munich, Vienna, Madrid and Paris and the Edinburgh, Salzburg and Prague Spring festivals and at the BBC Proms in London. His discography includes recordings of Pavel Haas’ Der Scharlatan/The Charlatan (Decca) and The Adventures of Mr Brouček under Jiří Bělohlávek (Deutsche Grammophon). Aleš Briscein studied clarinet and saxophone before beginning his operatic studies at the Conservatoire in Prague.
