Mario Chang joined the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt at the beginning of the 2014/15 season, during which he will sing Rodolfo in La Bohème, Cassio in Otello, Edwin Ronald von und zu Lippert-Weylersheim in concert performances of Die Csárdásfürstin and the Italian Singer in a new production of Der Rosenkavalier, a role he sang in 2013 at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where he made his debut in 2012/13 in Wagner's Parsifal. He graduated from the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. Last season he sang Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore under James Levine in a concert put on by the Met and Juilliard School and took part in the Met's Summer Recital Series. He also made his debuts at the International Vocal Arts Institute in Tel Aviv, in Carnegie Hall, taking part in a concert put on by the Musical Olympus Foundation and Miami Lyric Opera, where he sang the title role in Mascagni's L’amico Fritz. This Guatamalan tenor studied at the renowned Juilliard School in New York and has won prizes at many competitions, including the 2011 Francisco Viñas Competition at the Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona. In August 2014 he won 1st Prize, the Zarzuela Prize and the Audience Prize at the Operalia Singing Competition, which was founded by Plácido Domingo.
