The season, day by dayback to calendar
Berlin has found a new jazz, cabaret, musical, operetta diva in Dagmar Manzel – who celebrates the charms of times gone by with her thoroughly modern personality. When this sought after actress is not on stage at the Deutsche Theater in Berlin or being filmed for the next Tatort (thriller crime series) installment she can be seen dancing at the Komische Oper Berlin. She can move audiences to tears and make them laugh their heads off all in one evening. Those who have seen her as Mrs Lovett in Sweeney Todd, the hysterical Lilli Vanessi in Kiss me, Kate or the elegant Madaleine de Faublas in Ball at the Savoy, know what an extraordinary artist she is. She sang Kurt Weill's Seven Deadly Sins – her first solo evening with large orchestra – as if it was written for her. She recently enjoyed an enormous success with her album MENSCHENsKIND/GOOD HEAVENS – a homage to the revue and cabaret composer Friedrich Holländer. »His songs are somehow so familiar that it feels as if they are sitting beside me«, she raved. Her performances, sometimes thoughtful, sometimes brash but always touching and authentic, gets under your skin.
here is her programme.
