Johannes Maratin Kränzle (baritone)
Hilko Dumno (piano)

A star returns to the stage after a serious illness: Johannes Martin Kränzle, a favourite member of our ensemble since 1998, with a repertoire encompassing more that 100 roles, who has thrilled audiences all over the world, most recently in New York when he made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera singing Beckmesser in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in the 2014/15 seaon. This expressive baritione with a wonderful voice is equally at home in concert and recital, as we heard when he last appeared in recital here with Hilko Dumno, to a sold out house. Their collaboration, their colours, highs and lows is almost symbiotic, which is evident on their recording of Grenzen der Menschheit/Limits of Humanity - Lieder by Franz Schubert and Robert Schumann. Through his work as a composer and teacher (guest professorships at the University for Music and Dance in Cologne and the Brasilian University Rio Grande do Norte in Natal), this »2011 Singer of the Year« (Opernwelt) continues to broaden his perspectives on the operatic stage and in the concert hall.
