The season, day by dayback to calendar
Gold, velvet and silk – Nicole Cabell's voice is luxurious: noble in timbre, incredibly rich in colour, her phrasing perfect, her appearance glamorous and convincing, so it was not surprising that the high calibre jury in Cardiff voted her 2005 »BBC Cardiff Singer of the World«. This California born artist, one of the best lyric sopranos in the world, enjoys a fantastic career. Her repertoire includes Mozart's Countess, Donna Elvira and Pamina, Puccini's Mimì and Musetta, Verdi's Violetta Valéry, Donizetti's Adina, Bizet's Leïla and Bellini's and Gounod's Juliets. Nicole Cabell performs in north America most of the time, in houses including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Chicago Lyric Opera and San Francisco Opera, but she has also performed in Europe, making recent house debuts as Handel's Alcina at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, Mimì at the Paris Opéra National, Princess Eudoxie (La Juive) at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London – where she recently sang Violetta – and Bizet's Micaëla (Carmen) and Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. She made her debut in Australia singing the female lead in Gershwin's Porgy and Bess with the Sydney Symphony. Wherever she appears, Nicole Cabell wins everybody over with her elegance, versatility and personality.
