The season, day by dayback to calendar
Tanja Ariane Baumgartner has been a favourite member of the ensemble with our audiences and critics for many years. She is extraordinarily versatile, slipping into roles like Carmen and Lisa (Weinberg's The (female) Passenger), Amastre (Xerxes) and Cassandre (Les Troyens), Fricka (Das Rheingold / Die Walküre) with ease. Little wonder that one who masters the »competitive sport of singing« with such light-footedness, noblesse, vocal presence and personality is engaged by houses all over the world, including the Theater an der Wien, the Vienna and Berlin state operas, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Edinburgh International and Salzburg festivals and the BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall London. It is our good fortune that this mezzo-soprano at some point realised that the violin was not the right medium for for her. Now, at last, a chance to hear the female matador with her clear, dark, rich voice in recital in the main auditorium.
