In 2011 the director Jens-Daniel Herzog was appointed Intendant of Oper Dortmund, where he stages new productions of Strauss’ Arabella and Verdi's Nabucco this season. He takes up the post of Intendant of the Staatstheater in Nürnberg in the 2018/19 season. He was responsible for Oper Frankfurt's wonderful production of Lohengrin. He has directed a lot of productions at houses including Zurich Opera, the Hamburg State Opera, the Semperoper in Dresden, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Staatstheater in Nürnberg, Theater Bonn, the Theater an der Wien, at the Salzburg Festival, Innsbruck Festwochen and Schwetzingen Festival. After studying philosophy Jens-Daniel Herzog began his career as an assistant at the Kammerspiel in Munich, where he directed many world premieres. Other places where he has directed plays have included the Schauspielhaus in Zürich, the Thalia Theater in Hamburg, Burgtheater in Vienna and Schauspiel in Frankfurt. During his time as director of drama at the Nationaltheater in Mannheim, from 2000-2006, he also directed operas including Così fan tutte and Die Entführung aus dem Serail.
