Antony McDonald, voted »Best Set Designer« at the 2013 International Opera Awards, has worked regularly with Richard Jones for many years. Their production of Billy Budd at Oper Frankfurt was followed by Die Sache Makropulos / The Makropoulos Case. Other joint projects, on which he worked as co-director and co-set designer, were L’Enfant et les Sortilèges and Der Zwerg / The Dwarf at the Opéra National in Paris and La Bohème and Un ballo in maschera at the Bregenz Festival (Golden Triga from the 2003 Prague Quadriennale). He also designed sets for other productions directed by Richard Jones, including Pelléas et Mélisande (English National Opera in London, Munich Opera Festival), Das schlaue Füchslein / The Cunning Little Vixen (De Nationale Opera Amsterdam), Juliette (Paris and ENO), Jenůfa (Chicago) and The Gambler (Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London). He also collaborated on productions directed by Frederick Wake Walker, Aron Stiehl and Tim Albery. Antony McDonald is also works as a director, most recently on Ariadne auf Naxos and Rusalka at Scottish Opera, Adès’ Powder her face at Irish National Opera, La Finta giardiniera at La Scala Milan and the Glyndebourne Festival, Die Gezeichneten at Theater St. Gallen, Lohengrin in Athens and Tristan und Isolde at the Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg.
