Britta Tönne is working at Oper Frankfurt for the first time. While studying indoor architecture she designed the set for Der Sprachabschneider (directed by Lars Reichow) at the Staatstheater in Wiesbaden. She then began working as a designer, and assistant designer, at the Musiktheater in Gelsenkirchen, where work included designing the sets for Comedian Harmonists, a children's ballet, Spieglein, Spieglein / Mirror mirror on the wall (directed by: Sebastian Schwab) and Britten's Albert Herring and set and costumes for Hans und Gretchen. A freelance set and costume designer since 2014/15, Britta Tönne was a designer for Die lustige Witwe / The Merry Widow, Männer/Men, Heute Abend: Lola Blau, the musical Der Zauberer von Oz / The Wizard of Oz, the Steam Punk opera Klein Zaches, genannt Zinnober (directed by Sebastian Schwab) and the ballet Alice in Wonderland in Gelsenkirchen. In 2017 she designed set and costumes for Wie im Himmel / Just Like in Heaven at Theater Hagen. Many of the above mentioned productions were directed by Sandra Wissmann and Thomas Weber-Schallauer. Productions in 2018 include projects at the Folkwang University in Essen and Staatstheater in Cottbus. Britta Tönne won the 2015 Gelsenkirchen Theatre Prize.
