Davy Cunningham, who was born in Scotland, has worked as a lighting designer on more than 250 productions of operas at leading opera houses around the world, including the Metropolitan Opera New York, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, the Opéra National in Paris,Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, the Nationale Opera Amsterdam, Zurich Opera and the Munich and Berlin state operas. Earlier productions at Oper Frankfurt were Britten's Death in Venice, Adès' The Tempest and Reimann's Lear. He has lit intimate productions – Mozart in the palace at Schönbrunn, for example – and enormous stagings on the stage by the lake in Bregenz (Turandot, Andrea Chénier and Tosca), where he also worked as lighting designer on the world premiere of André Tchaikovsky's Der Kaufmann von Venedig/The Merchant of Venice directed by Keith Warner, with whom he works regularly.
