The set designer Hans Schavernoch works at leading theatres around the world, including those in Munich, Vienna, Zürich, Berlin, Warsaw, London, Amsterdam, Florence, Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, Chicago, Los Angeles, at the Metropolitan Opera New York, in Sydney and Tokyo and at the Bayreuth and Salzburg festivals. He has worked on productions with Harry Kupfer for many years, including Glinka's Iwan Sussanin, this production of Berlioz' Fausts Verdammnis / Damnation of Faust, Pfitzner's Palestrina (available on CD – OehmsClassics) and Prokofiev's The Gambler at Oper Frankfurt. He recently designed sets for Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk (Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich), MacbethFidelio (Staatsoper Berlin), Der Rosenkavalier (2014 Salzburg Festival – which then went to La Scala Milan), Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (Finnish National Opera Helsinki) and Handel's Poro (Komische Oper in Berlin). His artistic achievements have won Hans Schavernoch many international prizes, including the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and the Arts and the German Bühnenpreis (stage prize).
