Antonino Fogliani, who was born in Italy, is regarded as one of the world's leading bel canto conductors. He is now back at Oper Frankfurt, where he made his debut last season with Tosca, for this new production of Norma. He has been First Guest Conductor at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein since 2017/18, where future projects include La traviata, Otello, Don Giovanni, Maria Stuarda and Don Pasquale. Other future engagements include his debuts at the Bregenz Festival, with Carmen, Opera Vlaanderen, with La Juive, Zurich Opera and Oper Stuttgart with Il barbiere di Siviglia and a return to the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich for Lucia di Lammermoor. He works regularly at the Norske Opera in Oslo, where he recently conducted Norma. Other recent engagements have taken him to theatres including La Scala Milan, the Semperoper in Dresden, Palm Beach Opera, Houston Grand Opera, the Bolschoi in Moscow, Finnish National Opera in Helsinki, the Arena di Verona, Opéra de Monte-Carlo and the Rossini Festival in Wildbad, where he has been Music Director since 2011. His many recordings, in collaboration with Jochen Schönleber, include Rossini's Ciro in Babilonia, Mosè in Egitto, Otello, L’occasione fa il ladro, Nicola Vaccaj's La sposa di Messina and Mercadante's Don Chisciotte. His Il barbiere di Siviglia from La Fenice in Venice and Maria Stuarda from the Teatro alla Scala were relayed live to cinemas all over the world.
