Dirk Kaftan is conducting at Oper Frankfurt for the first time. He is General Music Director Designate of Oper Bonn and Chief Conductor of the Beethoven Orchestra, positions he has held with Oper Graz and the Graz Philharmonic Orchestra since 2013, where he conducts new productions of Tristan und Isolde, La Rondine and a double bill of Der Zwerg (The Dwarf) & Der Gefangene (The Prisoner), a revival of West Side Story and Grieg's Peer Gynt (in concert) this season. He is also very involved in an inter-cultural project in Graz - Grenzenlos verschieden/Boundlessly Different - and a music education programme centred on Beethoven 9. Highlights in recent seasons have included Le nozze di Figaro at the Volksoper in Vienna, Der Freischütz at the Royal Opera in Copenhagen and performances at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Komischen Oper Berlin, the Semperoper in Dresden and the Bregenz Festival. This former General Music Director of Theater Augsburg also enjoys a busy international concert career and awards include the 2015 Karl Böhm Interpretation Prize.
